God will never say... I didn't notice. You cried and I didn't see it. You were hurting, and I missed it. Instead, He assures us,"... I have heard your prayer and seen your tears." 2 Kings 20:5. I didn't care. Someone mistreated you, and I looked the other way. Instead, amazingly, He is deeply engaged in our lives. "Whoever touches you touches the apple of His eye." Zech. 2:8. I forgot. I promised to guide your every step, but I got distracted and I forgot. "Indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep." Psalm 121:4. I made a mistake. I promised that everything would work out for your good, but it didn't turn out that way. Instead, He affirms, "My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please." Isaiah 46:10b. I didn't see it coming. Is it possible to surprise the One who says, "I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times what is still to come"? Isaiah 46:10a. I didn't hear you. Never. "Before they call I will answer; while they are still speaking I will hear." Isaiah 65:24. I didn't understand. "For the Lord searches every heart and understands every motive behind the thoughts." 1 Chronicles 29:9. I am busy. We have an open invitation, "Come to me ..." Matthew 11:38, and a promise, "Come near to God and he will come near to you." James 4:8. We have an amazing God. One who is ever ready to receive us with open arms, an open heart, and open ears. The Bible calls Him the God of all comfort ... what a beautiful description of who He truly is. -Maria Lund
