Home > Newsletter > By His Grace Object LessonsWe were each handed an object that is found in nature. ' We were to hold it, take the time to look at it, and then we would have a turn to talk about what that particular object said to us about God. It was a Bible study where we had been talking about the fact that every created thing reflects an aspect of its Creator. I was handed a feather, and I have to admit, I was wondering what on earth I was supposed to say about that feather. I don't remember all the objects that were handed out that night. But two others stuck in my mind. One was an egg; the other, a rock. The person who had the rock said she had never understood why Christ was referred to as the Rock of Ages. A rock seemed so cold and hard. Yet this rock had taught her that there was a quiet strength about it. It reminded her that Christ cannot be moved or broken. The lady who had been given the egg talked about how this was a very ordinary container, yet it was capable of nurturing life inside. The egg reminded her that God puts life in very ordinary containers. He put His life in us. As I held and looked at my feather – really looked at it – I was struck by how soft and light it was. It made me think about the way God speaks to us, so softly that we can easily miss it if we are not paying attention, so gently that we can choose to ignore it if we want to. His isn't a heavy handed approach. That feather was also intricately made. There was a specific design to it, and it was perfectly engineered for its purpose. It spoke of an ingenious, creative, intelligent Mind that can achieve the power of flight in the beauty of a feather. I couldn't help but envy the birds' power to soar. And then the Lord gently reminded me, "Your spirit can soar - on the wind of My Spirit" -Maria Lund
