Home > Newsletter > By His Grace PowerThe world of science-fiction is full of beings with special powers-aliens who can make themselves invisible, communicate by telepathy, move objects by sheer mental force, travel great distances in the blink of an eye, influence others to do their bidding ... Fantasy reflects wishful thinking. Ask any child-his eyes will sparkle as he freely admits he'd love to be invisible or have some other awesome power. It is at the core of the human soul to long for power, to dream of "evolving" into a higher state of being. I sometimes wonder if that longing doesn't reflect a deeply ingrained knowledge that mankind was created to be more than what it now is ... The truth is that mankind was created for a higher purpose-man was created to reflect the glory of God and to be God's friend; but fallen, sinful nature will not reach out to God; it wants to be God. The essence of the first temptation"you will be like God," knowledgeable, powerful-echoes on. We are entering the season when we commemorate the most incredible, awe-inspiring miracle: the One who was God, the One who had all the power and all the knowledge man longs for, chose to lay it aside and became a totally helpless infant ... out of love. Amazing love. Man wants to be like God, and Christmas comes every year to remind us that being like God is not about wielding more power; it is about being willing to give it up in order to serve ... out of love. -Maria Lund |
