2011 Vacation Bible School
NARNIA ~ "Through the Wardrobe"
We have a tradition here at Wiley Heights that goes back as long as I have been involved in VBS…Transform the Church into a different time and place. Transport the children into this new reality, to teach them about God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. Collect a missionary offering totaling $100 or more. Upon accomplishing this goal, do something out of the ordinary to your VBS Director.
This year we accomplished all of those goals and the tradition lives on!
We transformed the Entrance to the church into the Wardrobe from Narnia, complete with Hanging coats and tree branches. Upon entering the church, you find winter everywhere, with the infamous lamppost. Turning to your right you will enter the Castle Cair Paravel, where we enjoyed worship lead by “WHY Worship”. Then we went into Mr. Tumnus’s cave for the movie, scripture reading, and lesson on how we can rely on the Holy Spirit to fill us with the fruits of the spirit. After all that sitting it was time to run in the backyard for games, returning to the Beavers House for snack! Lori Carlson kept us well nourished all week with wonderful creative food. As we finished eating and visiting it was time to gather around Aslan’s Stone Table for our crafts. This year we made compass bracelets so we could find our way back because everyone knows N points to Narnia. We took a group photo and made a picture frame for it. We painted our own Bobble Head Dolls, and made a cross necklace out of three nails, to remind us Jesus died for each of us.
Our Missionary focus this year was the Covenant Kids Footballs and Flutes for Thailand. We gave the kids all flutes to play all week and they brought in $163.73 to provide two Christian camps in Thailand bibles. Did you know, less than 1% of the population of Thailand is Christian? Pray these camps can lead the children to Jesus and save the families in the process. As tradition goes, I was captured after an entertaining chase, lead to the stockades, and covered with goopy, slimy, gross looking Jell-O. Well it was for a good cause and the kids loved it!
We had an average attendance of 14 Students, and10 Student Leader Participants.
Thank you to Dave, Jesse, Jessica, Kayla, AJ and the Why Worship band, Dorothy and Marian for Registration and everything else that needed doing, Mark and Megan for providing transportation, Dena for an emergency photo fix, and Laura for getting the kids excited about sliming me with Jell-O. VBS could not happen without all of you!

2010 VBS - A pre-Olympic Celebration
Each night at VBS we sang with “WHY Worship” the high school worship band; visited Oly Anne, world famous Christian calisthenics trainer; made a prayer book, Frisbee, banner, t-shirt, and medal; played group games, challenges, and ran obstacle courses; enjoyed refreshments in the Olympic Village!
2009 VBS - The Old West
We traveled to Trinity a town in the Old West this Summer for VBS. Here we discovered Jesus the son, God the Father, and the Holy Spirit...Yep pardner you guessed it ... Trinity is a Holy Ghost town!
Citizens of Trinity are cow pokes 4 years old up to any one who just completed 5th grade. Every citizen of Trinity wears a cowboy hat, and a tin star. A hootin' hollerin' good time is had by all.
